Red Sonja is a fictional comic book heroine. This iteration of Red Sonja was created in 2019 by the creative team, led by Mike Russell, at Dynamite Entertainment.
Biography[]
Known as the "She-Devil with a Sword," Red Sonja is a fearsome red-haired warrior. In this volume, she is the Queen of Hyrkania.
Red Sonja, known as the “She-Devil of the Hyrkanian Steppes,” hails from the wild and vast lands of Hyrkania. The exact place of her birth remains unknown, and the nature of her early education is shrouded in mystery. No one truly knows where she grew up or how she came to wield a sword with such unmatched skill. That enigma has become part of her legend.
According to the tales told in this version of her story, Sonja was the daughter of Ivor, a former soldier who had become a farmer. She lived a quiet life in a small Hyrkanian village with her two brothers. From a young age, she showed a keen interest in swordplay, an unusual and frowned-upon pursuit for a girl. Yet, she practiced in secret, training in the shadows after completing her daily chores.
That peaceful life ended in horror shortly before she came of age. A band of mercenaries raided her home, killed her family in cold blood, and set fire to everything she had known. Gravely wounded and left for dead, Sonja fled into the nearby forest, broken, exhausted, and on the verge of death.
It was there, lost in the wilderness, that she experienced a powerful vision: an ethereal figure, neither man nor woman, glowing with a blue, divine light. This supernatural presence, both terrifying and beautiful, bestowed upon her a renewed strength and purpose. It marked a spiritual rebirth.
From that moment on, Sonja transformed into a warrior unlike any other. She swore vengeance not just for her family, but for all the women who had ever suffered at the hands of cruelty and power. With fire in her heart and a sword in hand, she forged her legend through battle, blood, and unshakable will. A master of the blade and a brilliant strategist, she rose to become queen and conqueror, feared by kings, respected by soldiers, and remembered in song. Thus was born the legend of Red Sonja.
Physical appearance[]
Red Sonja is tall with wavy long red hair. She is fit and athletic. Red Sonja is often in an armored bikini with tall knee-high boots and gloves.
Powers and abilities[]
- Praeternatural physical attributes - whilst training in Khitai, Sonja tells Domo that she has never met an opponent who can match her strength, and later in the series, she lops through a bough with one slice that was able to support the weight of three archers, as well as toppling a heavy statue, despite suffering numerous wounds including a broken arm and exhausted from battling for hours.

- Tactical mastermind, having studied the art of war under the Khitai Master of War Domo, becoming his star pupil in the process.
