Red Sonja is a fictional comic book heroine. This version of her character was first created in December of 2016.
Biography[]
Known as the "She-Devil with a Sword," Red Sonja is the greatest swordswoman of the Hyborean Age and more than a match for any man in combat.
Physical appearance[]
Red Sonja is tall with wavy long red hair. She is fit and athletic. Red Sonja is often in an armored bikini with tall knee-high boots and gloves.
Powers and abilities[]
- Low-level superhuman physical attributes. This version of Sonja believes that her abilities were granted by Scathach but according to the writer, she actually developed them through training and determination. Nevertheless, her feats go far beyond what the greatest athletes of modern times can accomplish. She can leap 15 feet into the air from a standing start and lift a 250lb man off the ground by the throat with one hand, with him proving utterly incapable of breaking her grip. She can stagger a large great white shark with a punch to the face and kick through the metal screen of a rollercoaster at Coney Island. At one point during the run, she seemingly smashes her way out of heavy fetters but there is some ambiguity about whether magic was involved. Even after being taken by surprise and shot in the shoulder, it takes 3 men to subdue her. In an interview, writer Amy Chu said that Sonja had the strength of six men.
- Stealth - in Central Park, Sonja is able to evade surveillance by security cameras with ease to the extent that the police refer to her as a ghost
- Adaptability - Amy Chu said that Sonja's ability to acclimatise to a hostile environment was her greatest asset. In New York, she learns to read and write English quickly, as well as how to operate a television, to ride a motorcycle and several other skills.
- The finest swordmaster of her world and an accomplished archer, although her markmanship doesn't match her skill with a blade. She becomes adept with a crossbow very quickly during her trip across America. She also easily wins an axe-throwing contest at a tavern in Cimmeria, much to the disgust of her companion Taya, who asks Sonja whether she ever loses at any contests.
