Cimmerians are the aboriginal people of Cimmeria. Conan is an aberrant Cimmerian.
History[]
The Cimmerian people were the direct descendants of vanished Atlanteans. Five hundred years after the Age of Conan, the Cimmerians still resided into the ancient homelands. It was at this time Hyrkanian] invaders exploded into other Hyborian kingdoms, but their thrust failed against the ferociously defended Cimmerian hills. Only the great Nordheimr surge in advance of the glaciers finally displaced the black-haired barbarians. Many ousted Cimmerians then moved eastward, all the way to the southwestern shore of the Vilayet.
Characteristics[]
Cimmerians were tall and powerful, with dark hair, bronze skin, and blue or gray eyes. Cimmerians were often bare-chested with steel shields and battle-axes. Cimmerian tribes existed contemporaneously with Atlantis, intermarrying with Atlantean colonists on the Thurian continent prior to the Cataclysm.
Society[]
Cimmerians live in villages deep in the humid forests. Cimmerian culture is hunting and gathering, with individuals equipped with iron weapons and had borrowed other elements from the higher cultures to the south. The culture was isolationist, and there is little evidence of any Cimmerian venturing outside to other nations. Few, including Conan, ever leave the native homelands.
Cimmerian religion centered on a grim and savage god, Crom, Lord of the Great Mountain, who cared little for mankind save to breathe into men's souls the power to strive and slay. The Cimmerians believed in a shadowy afterlife in which the souls of the dead would wander Crom's grey realm aimlessly for all eternity.
